Each year, the farmers’ market hosts a Kids’ Mart. It gives children the chance to experiment with their entrepreneurial side. The kids are invited to sell their items on specific days at the market and during restricted times. It is a lot of fun for the kids, and we are doing it again in 2020. This year, we’re offering it twice!
June 6, 2020- August 1, 2020
(The June 6, 2020 date has been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.)
The kids, with consent from a parent, must complete a vendor application and have it turned in prior to the date they anticipate selling. There is a $3 charge for the booth space as well, and the kids can share space with others. The application can be accessed below, and agricultural and craft items are acceptable.

The process is time consuming and can be costly, depending on the certifying agency used and size of the operation. Up-front fees can be over $1000; even more if a farmer is certifying poultry or livestock. Some of the up-front fees can later be reimbursed through a USDA cost sharing program, but that is only if the organic certification is approved. Of course, certification is only required for farms that sell more than $5,000 in organic products each year. However, if the farm makes or produces a product and wants to claim that it or its ingredients are organic, the final product must be certified.
