The GHD Hiking Club has had so much fun this year. We have had more smiles per mile than you could shake a hiking stick at! We have seen so many magnificent sights! The picture (left) was taken at Hahn State Park on the White Oak trail. We were stopping for our snack break. We always have to have at least one snack break.
We hike every other Saturday in the fall and winter and different people show up each time. One thing we have learned is that it is a small, small world. It seems no matter who is there on a given week, we all have friends, places, and stories in common. We truly enjoy each other’s company.
We always make it a fairly leisurely hike, taking in all the sights along the way. We have seen creeks, waterfalls, glades, wildflowers, boulders and many other natural beauties, as well as a few manmade ones, such as charming little bridges. We always joke and laugh along the way, and sometimes even sing. It doesn’t seem to matter if we’re in tune.
Missouri has some of the best hiking trails in the country and we have enjoyed many of them this year. We have been to Valley View Glades, Mooner’s Hollow trail, Hickory Ridge trail, White Oak trail, Opossum trail and Victoria Glades. Tomorrow we are heading to the Pine Ridge Loop Trail at St. Joe State Park. It is approximately 6.5 miles. That is the exception for us. Our hikes are usually two to three miles long.
Whatever the length, they are all a pleasure to travel. After tomorrow, we still have four on our schedule for this year. One is Pickle Springs trail, which has been said to have, “more smiles per mile than any trail in Missouri.” Come out and join us someday for plenty-oh-smiles per mile :-)).
