P.O.P. Club is a program at the DeSoto Farmers’ Market for kids. Once they are signed up (which requires a parent or guardian’s permission), they can get some cool things at the market.
On the first and third Saturday’s of each month, P.O.P. Club kids who are 4-12 years old get $2 worth of tokens to spend at the market. They can use the tokens to purchase any produce. The best part: the tokens do NOT expire. That means that if they’re just burning a hole in your kid’s pocket, they can spend them. However, for the kids that lean a bit more toward planning, they can save all their tokens until they find something they just love! We’ve even had some kids diligent enough to save for a pumpkin in October.
Don’t get us wrong; the program is fun! The kid might have to work to get those tokens though. They might need to report the names of two vendors or identify a red piece of produce that can be purchased at the market. The possibilities vary depending on the group or individual planning that day’s activity.
On the other Saturdays in the month, the kids can pop into the market and get a sticker, coloring sheet, or another treat. Stickers remain one of the favorites though! It is just our effort to make it a bit easier for them to think about healthy food options and shop at our market. If you have any questions about P.O.P. Club, please inquire at the market. Sign-ups are processed in the office. Remember: it’s the Saturday morning place to be!
