Heart Attack Symptoms

February 18, 2021 by Melissa Leave a Comment

Continuing with our theme of heart health, here are 4 symptoms of a heart attack. If these are present, call 9-1-1.

  1. CHEST DISCOMFORT-Most heart attacks involve discomfort in the center of the chest that lasts more than a few minutes, or that goes away and comes back. It can feel like uncomfortable pressure, squeezing, fullness or pain.
  2. DISCOMFORT IN OTHER AREAS OF THE UPPER BODY-Symptoms can include pain or discomfort in one or both arms, the back, neck, jaw or stomach.
  3. SHORTNESS OF BREATH-with or without chest discomfort.
  4. OTHER SIGNS-may include breaking out in a cold sweat, nausea or lightheadedness.

A couple of ways to ensure a healthy heart: eat right and exercise. That sounds really basic, but it is also really true. And again, if you experience symptoms of a heart attack, calling 9-1-1 is the best way to get help.

We’re all looking forward to warmer weather at this point, and this portable grill will see you through some spring camping and take you right into tailgating season in the fall. The 14″ grill comes with a set of portable condiment containers so you’ll always have your mustard, ketchup, and relish for those dogs.

This small platter is perfect for cheese and crackers and is a vibrant green. The bottle of wine is held in a cute holder with stained glass leaves and grapes as well.

These two ceramic pieces are both brightly colored. The acorn dish includes very nice leaf details that aren’t visible in the picture, and the green vase has a lovely silhouette from any angle.

This woodturned bowl in maple measures ~12″ wide by 2.5″ tall. The grooved detail on the edges is done by burning the wood with a wire while turning it on the lathe, and the outcome is stunning. This is another great bowl donated by Terry Eiler.

The photos do not do justice to the beautiful grain that this walnut bowl displays. Terry Eiler’s turned piece measures ~12.25″ across by 4″ tall. It is named “Melissa’s Bowl” because the Executive Director really loves this bowl.

This unique bowl is probably on your mother’s Mother’s Day gift list. It is another bowl turned by Terry Eiler that is an apple wood bowl with assymetrical edges measuring ~12″ wide with a varying height. The rough bark edges add to the rustic beauty of the bowl while the smooth finished surface treated with tung oil gives it a sophisticated edge.

Great for a house warming gift, this large 18.5″ wide painted wall hanging comes complete with a $25 gift certifate to Little Red Wagon Designs.

This great hat was crocheted by Hilde and has a great little upturned brim with large button details. We’ve paired it with a 7.75″ bracelet made by a vendor at the market.

This Kitchener electric meat grinder would be a great addition to any hunter’s kitchen. The 1/2 horsepower motor will allow you to home process your deer or other game. It comes with 3 plates and 1 knife, along with sausage stuffing tubes.

The staff at Cato put together a great gift kit. It includes a $25 gift card, butterfly earrings, a very cute flower bracelet, two coordinating face masks, and Champagne Bubbles perfume all packed in a very cute repurposed wooden box.

Bob Ross might have coined the term “happy little tree” with Joy of Painting, but Tim Gagnon certainly embodied it with this 15.5″ carved tree in cedar. It certainly is a happy little tree.

This cute 14″ pumpkin is sure to be a great beginning on a fall centerpiece. Carved by Tim Gagnon, it is a great example of the skills of our local artisans.

Complete with a leather sheath, this 4.5″ blade is the creation of Scrub Oak Forge, our local blacksmith shop. The decorative handle includes an intricate broken pattern, and the sheath includes acorns, oak leaves, and an etched deer.

This letter opener is hand forged. As with so many of Scrub Oak Forge’s items, no two are exactly alike. This one includes a green, gold, and white “shooter” marble in the handle, adding to the unique look.

We’ve moved our silent auction that is usually part of Trivia Night to an online auction this year. We would love to have you join us. Proceeds from the auction will be used to cover staff costs at the farmers’ market and help us continue to be the Saturday morning place to be. Thank you for your continued support.

Dear Friends,

Welcome to the Winter Fun auction guide! I appreciate everyone’s willingness to support our local community during this challenging time. Although the usual trivia night wasn’t possible this year, we’ve planned a great Scavenger Hunt and this online auction as well. There’s a learning curve in all of this, so please be patient with us! (All the virtual meetings might have caused synapse delays.)

DeSoto Farmers’ Market was started in 2009 and continues to be a thriving program of Get Healthy DeSoto. Improving access to local products and goods was the original intention, and we continue to do this every Saturday, May through October from 8 am until noon. The pandemic has allowed us a new opportunity: provide consistent access when there is greater need and reduced availability. We are an essential part of the local economy, and the pandemic has highlighted the need to further expand our market.

The 2021 season will continue to be a challenge, and restrictions that existed during 2020 will likely continue for a while. As always, we will try to be flexible and anticipate hurdles and obstacles. In truth, it is the leadership of our board and steering committee that has helped us persevere. In addition to that, fabulous staff and volunteers make the market run smoothly. That and a bit of humor and treats, and the 2021 market season will knock your socks off!

The winter fundraiser has always been about one thing: fun! We’ve had game themes, Mardi Gras themes, and more. Silly games like Alive or Dead and Head or Tails has been a staple to try to stave off cabin fever. That is more important than ever now! In addition to being a fundraiser, we hope that it will be a chance to bring you a bit of joy or at least a smile to your face. Consider entering a team in the Scavenger Hunt and make sure you check out the auction. The Fund-a-Need items…let’s just say you should check those out too!

Thank you again, and enjoy the auction!

Melissa McAlpine,
Executive Director
