Christmas chickens preparing for guests

This year’s Christmas Home Tour is going to be one of the best yet! We have nine properties on tour that were constructed from the 1860s to 2017. There’s an array of different decorations based on the homes and their occupants. To sweeten the experience even more, the tour takes place on Small Business Saturday. In addition to the homes on tour, you’ll have a chance to shop at local businesses, maybe grab lunch at a local eatery, and purchase gifts for all those special people in your life at the tour’s Country Market.

  • Date: Saturday, November 27, 2021
  • Time: 9 AM to 3:30 PM
  • Where: 9 great properties in and around DeSoto
  • Cause: funds raised go to cover insurance for Get Healthy DeSoto

Tickets aren’t on sale just yet, but they will be soon. The cost for a ticket will be just $15 each or 2 for $25. Be checking your newsletter, our Facebook page, and Instagram for places where you might purchase a ticket and when they are available. These will likely sell out before Thanksgiving!

And about those Christmas chickens; one home on tour is part of a small farm. They have 70 chickens! No, the chickens will likely not be decorated for Christmas, but you never know…

Earn your Cycle Parade badge on Main Street

We’re excited about the Cycle Parade again this year. It will give kids a chance to ride their bikes on Main Street, earn a badge, and potentially get a new bike helmet.

The best part: we’ll give away a bike to the best decorated non-motorized vehicle. Dress up the wagon, skateboard, bike, or…

you get the idea right? in the best sports motif you can envision. It might earn you a new bike!

Details:

  • When: Saturday, September 18, 2021
  • What: Registration is from 8-10 AM, with the parade beginning at 10 AM.
  • Who: Everyone is welcome to participate. Just bring your wheels! We ask that all participants 12 and under wear a helmet. We’ll provide helmets for those arriving before the parade as long as supplies last.
  • Where: 520 N. Main Street, at the DeSoto Farmers’ Market Pavilion. The street should be closed, but you can access it from Fletcher, Edington, or the alley. Please watch for pedestrians, since it will likely be a very busy day!
  • How: by moving your body, silly! And by decorating your bike in the best sports motif every! (Kids will get a badge for participating, and probably a popsicle after we return from our ride down Main Street.)

Winter Flakes Couch to 5K

Have fun getting fit with the Winter Flakes Couch to 5K program. Meet up with friends and family and join in on this great way to meet your 2019 health goals! This program is designed for the novice runner*. No pre-training is necessary, since it is designed for the “couch potato”.

The 2019 Winter Flakes Couch to 5K program starts Wednesday, January 2, 2019. This eight-week training program involves a weekly session with a running coach, a training plan, and weekly communication with nutrition tips and information. The cost is $45 and also includes the Winter Flakes 5K registration and race shirt for free (a $20 value). Participants will receive a stylish accessory and other participation prizes along the way! The weekly training sessions will be at Walther’s Park, depending on weather. Youth must have parental consent.

The training sessions will culminate with the Winter Flakes 5K run/walk on Saturday, March 2, 2019! All proceeds benefit Get Healthy De Soto programming, including trail development, Walking School Bus, community gardens, and more. Ready to register? Christmas Home Tour Tickets go on sale soon!

Tickets for the Christmas Home Tour will go on sale soon. We are excited to again be doing this event and know that many of you band together and come with your sisters, mothers, friends, and family. This year’s theme is Oh What Fun!, and we hope that you will truly enjoy the festive atmosphere of the homes. Many of the homes have young children, and we hope you can see the beauty of Christmas through the eyes of the families on our tour, regardless of the size of the family.

Tickets will again be $15 each prior to the tour and then go up to $18 the day of the tour. We’ll keep you posted about where you can purchase tickets and hope to see you soon!
