…having a long-lasting positive impact on the health and safety of the De Soto community by encouraging healthy lifestyle choices, through programs promoting physical activity, healthy nutrition, community involvement, and disease and injury prevention.
On November 28th, Get Healthy De Soto will be hosting our 6th annual Christmas Home Tour. All 10 properties on the tour are over 100 years old. To enhance our historic tour, we are featuring The General Thomas C. Fletcher Camp 47 Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War and The Louisa Volker Auxiliary 215. In addition to serving as greeters and guards at properties located at 401 South 5th and 310 Boyd Street, they will be setting up a Civil War Camp at the picturesque Mt. Olive Methodist Church. In the parking lot of this historic church, Camp 47 and the Volker Auxiliary will welcome you with old time warmth and showcase a Civil War tent, campfire, Civil War cooking and weapon demonstrations. This is a wonderful addition to help you step back in time during our Christmas Home tour.
In addition to this encampment, church members and volunteers will be giving tours of this charming church, offering refreshment and giving everyone who visits a free ticket to put their name in for one of two basket drawings. This is indeed a property not to miss. Be sure and plan your day so that you have time to spend at all the activities during this tour. Tickets for the FREE drawing may be picked up the day of the tour at the church or at the Masonic Lodge on Boyd Street.
The De Soto Masonic Lodge will be our home base for the 2015 Christmas Home Tour. Guided tours of the Masonic Lodge will be provided by members on the second floor. On the main floor, an Old Fashioned Christmas Market will be offered. This is a great opportunity to order those unique handmade specialty items, baked goods, honey, soaps, beef, pork and lamb for those on your Christmas gift list. Raffle Tickets for four $100.00 gift certificates to Wal-Mart will be available for purchase at $1.00 each or six for $5.00. Raffle Tickets are currently on sale at First State Community Bank in De Soto and the De Soto Public Library.
We look forward to seeing you at the Get Healthy DeSoto Christmas Home Tour.

The market will be hosting a blood drive on Saturday, August 22nd. We’ve partnered with St. Andrew’s and the Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center to hold the drive from 9-12 in the fellowship hall.
The Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center provides donor and blood services to Mercy Hospital Jefferson just down the road. The blood donations won’t just go to the hospital though, and we’re excited to be hosting our first blood drive with a regional agency that serves much of the greater St. Louis area.

From the Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center website:
Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center is the exclusive provider of blood products and services to 88 hospitals in Illinois, Iowa, Missouri and Wisconsin. The Blood Center is based in Davenport, Iowa, where MVRBC’s testing, processing and primary distribution center handles more than 250,000 units of blood components each year. MVRBC is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization. MVRBC collects blood at 19 fixed site donor centers and at more than 4,000 mobile blood drives held each year. The population of the Blood Center’s service region exceeds 4-million residents and donors give more than 180,000 donations each year.Blood donations are used to treat many illnesses, not just the car crash victims that come to mind first. In fact, blood transfusions are given for a host of different illnesses, including kidney disease, cancer, pernicious anemia, and hemophilia, and is commonly needed after surgeries.
Please consider donating on August 22nd!
