The Bureau of Environmental Health Services, Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, will conduct a workshop for producers of foods sold at farmers’ markets, at four different locations. The focus will be on regulations and exemptions, approved sources, food safety and sanitation, and processing of non-exempt foods. Please see Food Safety Workshops for locations, times, and contact information. Our Get Healthy De Soto Director has attended one of these classes before and says they are an excellent source of information for vendors.

Winter Flakes Showed for Winter Flakes Run!
Our first ever Winter Flakes Run/Walk was a huge success! We even had a few winter flakes fall from the sky to mark the occasion. I’m not kidding! Snowflakes were falling from the sky (see picture below). It could not have been a more perfect day. The sun even started peeking through toward the end. It was the perfect occasion for community members and visiting runners to have some fun and get some exercise on a winter’s day. We want to send out a big thank you out to all of our participants, sponsors, volunteers, the YMCA, and the City of De Soto. We could not have done it without you. We also want to thank everyone for their understanding when we were forced to postpone the event for a week due to weather. One hundred and ninety-two people signed up for the event, and although some were not able to make it on the rescheduled date, we still had over 100 participants. Included in the event were a 10k race (the first ever 10k in De Soto), a 5k race, and a one mile walk. We want to take a second also to congratulate the overall winners. In the 10k, Joseph Jordan was the overall male winner, coming in at 43:49, and Katie Lauterwasser was the overall female winner, coming in at 48:09. All other race results can be found at Race Results 2013. Thank you again to everyone for your help and support. All of you helped make it the perfect Winter Flakes Run. We are already looking forward to next year’s race!
Winter Flakes Run Rescheduled
We are sorry to report that, after careful consideration, and on the advice of the City of De Soto, the Winter Flakes Run/Walk, has been postponed due to inclement weather (sleet, snow, and ice). The race will be held next Saturday, March 2, 2013. Start time is still 9 a.m. We apologize for any inconvenience, but had to put the safety of our runners/walkers and volunteers first. We hope to see all of our participants next week and look forward to a wonderful winter race! If you are unable to attend, please contact us for packet pick-up arrangements. You can contact us through our Winter Flakes facebook page, or can reach Trish at 314.277.8079 or [email protected], or Annie at 314.223.6716 or [email protected].
Winter Flakes Run is Here!
It is time for our first ever Winter Flakes Run! This is a new event for Get Healthy DeSoto. We are very excited about it and hope you will come out and join the festivities. The event, taking place on Saturday, February 23rd, includes a 10k and 5k run, and a one mile walk. It gives everyone an opportunity to get out and get active in the winter, and also gives avid runners a good race for December (sometimes hard to find). Start time for the 10k and 5k is at 9 a.m., and the start time for the one mile walk is 9:10 a.m. Please click GHDWinterFlakesRoute to see the routes for the races. Race day registration is available from 7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Packet pickup begins at 7 a.m. as well. Awards will be presented to the top three male and female finishers in each division, and to overall male and female finishers, following the race. Please come out and join us for some healthy winter fun. If you don’t want to race, come out and cheer on our participants, many of whom are coming in from out of town!
